A modern alternative to SparkNotes and CliffsNotes, SuperSummary offers high-quality Study Guides with detailed chapter summaries and analysis of major themes, characters, and more. For select classroom titles, we also provide Teaching Guides with discussion and quiz questions to prompt student engagement.

Thought & Response Prompts

These prompts can be used for in-class discussion, exploratory free-writing, or reflection homework before or after reading the novel.

Personal Response Prompt

Think of a strong woman that you know in your life. Who is she? What is her background? Why do you consider her strong? Have you told her your impressions? Why or why not?

Teaching Suggestion: This question links directly with the “Post-Reading Analysis” and references Doria’s many opinions of the different adult women she encounters.

Post-Reading Analysis

Consider Doria’s perception of the strong women in her life. Who are they? Why does she think they are strong? Which of the women she describes does she not consider to be strong? Compare and contrast these reasons with your own personal response prompt, identifying the similarities and/or differences.

Teaching Suggestion: This question links directly with the “Personal Response Prompt.” Students should be encouraged to connect their responses.
